FROM SHAME TO STRENGTH: OVERCOMING THE PAIN OF PAST MISTAKES
WEEKLY CHARGE With Osoria Asiborย
Have you ever looked at your life and said, โIf only I hadnโt made that decisionโ?
โIf only I hadnโt trusted that personโฆโ
โIf only I hadnโt taken that loanโฆโ
โIf only I hadnโt dropped outโฆโ
โIf only I had waitedโฆโ
Regret is a heavy chain. It doesn’t just tie us to the pastโit stops us from moving forward. But I came with a word for you today: God does not consult your past to determine your future. The same God who knows the worst about you still calls you by your name, not your mistake.
You are more than your error. You are bigger than your shame. Your story is not over. There is redemption, there is restoration, and there is strength on the other side of shame.
1. Shame Is a Tool of the Enemy
Shame is different from guilt. Guilt says, โI did something wrong.โ But shame says, โThere is something wrong with me.โ Shame makes you feel unworthy to pray. It makes you withdraw from people who care. It silences your worship. It steals your joy.
But let me remind you: God does not shame His children. He convicts, but He never condemns.
โThere is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesusโฆโ โ Romans 8:1 (KJV)
The devil is called the accuser of the brethren (Revelation 12:10). His job is to keep you emotionally imprisoned by your past so you never step into your destiny. But every time he reminds you of your past, remind him of his future.
2. Everyone Has a โBefore Christโ Story
Donโt be deceived by peopleโs polished pictures on social media. Everyone has a struggle they donโt post. Some of the strongest Christians today were once broken people with messy stories. God delights in turning messes into messages.
Moses was a murderer. David was an adulterer. Rahab was a harlot. Peter denied Jesus. Paul persecuted Christians. Yet, God used them mightily. Why? Because God specializes in raising up people the world wrote off.
โAnd such were some of you: but ye are washed, but ye are sanctifiedโฆโ โ 1 Corinthians 6:11 (KJV)
If God can forgive them, cleanse them, and elevate them โ He can do the same for you.
3. You Canโt Heal What You Keep Hiding
Healing begins with honesty. Until you face what happened and bring it to God, shame will continue to fester like an open wound.
Donโt bury your past โ surrender it. The blood of Jesus is not afraid of your deepest stain. In fact, He already paid the price for it on the cross.
โIf we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.โ โ 1 John 1:9 (KJV)
Godโs grace is not just powerful โ it is personal. He knows your pain. He saw the moment you fell. He sees the silent tears. And still, He calls you worthy of a second chance.
4. People May Remember Your Mistakes, But God Chooses to Forget
The world loves to bring up peopleโs past. But Godโs forgiveness comes with forgetfulness.
โAnd their sins and iniquities will I remember no more.โ โ Hebrews 10:17 (KJV)
When God forgives, He doesnโt keep a record. He doesnโt hold it over your head. He removes it as far as the east is from the west (Psalm 103:12). So stop rehearsing what heaven has already erased.
If God has let it go, why are you still holding onto it?
5. Your Pain Can Become Someone Elseโs Freedom
One of the greatest lies of shame is that your story disqualifies you. But in Godโs kingdom, your story is your tool. There is someone out there who needs to hear what youโve been through. There is a young person about to make the same mistake you made, and your voice can be the warning that saves them.
When God restores you, He doesnโt just wipe away the shame โ He gives you a platform to speak life into others. Donโt hide your scars โ let them shine. They are proof that God heals.
โAnd they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimonyโฆโ โ Revelation 12:11 (KJV)
Your story matters. Your survival matters. Youโre still here for a reason.
6. Move Forward in Grace, Not Guilt
The enemy would love nothing more than to keep you in emotional and spiritual paralysis. But itโs time to get up.
God is not waiting for you to be perfect. Heโs waiting for you to be willing. The same God who met the woman caught in adultery said, โNeither do I condemn thee: go, and sin no more.โ (John 8:11).
You may have fallen โ but you can rise. You may have messed up โ but you can start again. You may have disappointed yourself โ but God still calls you His own.
The journey from shame to strength begins when you stop rehearsing your failures and start declaring His faithfulness.
Final Charge:
Donโt allow shame to silence your voice or stop your purpose. The blood of Jesus speaks louder than your worst mistake. You are not what you did โ you are who God says you are. And He says:
โ
You are forgiven.
โ
You are chosen.
โ
You are loved.
โ
You are destined for greatness.
This week, walk in the strength of your healing. Your past is a chapter, not the conclusion. Your best days are not behind you โ they are still ahead.
Till next Monday, stay blessed.
